Just got off the phone with my mini-interview with Peter Lenkov, via Mike Buck and his Mike Buck show:
James Caan approached Peter about Scott Caan’s character, wanting to know if Rachel and Danny get back together, and even pitched a character idea to Peter and Paul Z. Peter and Paul loved the character and that’s how James’ character came into being. But the big shocker is that James will not be playing Scott’s father! Shocking and intriguing!

I think it’s great that he’s not playing the dad. That would be just too cliché.
And how clever is that? Create your own character for the show you like to guest star in. Go Mr. Caan!
I agree. It worked well in the movie “Mercy” but not sure it would translate well with TV. Plus a new character is always fun!
LOL – yeah very innovative. Think its great that he’ll put in an appearance on the show and somehow I think saying no to any of the Caan boy’s is easy. I agree with everyone that it would be too cliche if he played daddy Williams, though the family resemblance would be hard to miss…ha ha!!

I’m disappointed, I so wanted him playing Danny’s father. Plus, I really, really hope, this or any other storyline won’t lead to a Danny/Rachel re-union. I’ve had enough of Rachel…
I agree the Rachel plot line is annoying! It should be over and done with already. Most men would have moved on by now.
LOL – oh I disagree – I like Rachel – just think that they have her storyline very confusing with too many gaps – I think if they wrote the story with her leaving Stan to be with Danny and Grace and remain in Hawaii…it would be too simple and easy but it would be nice to see.
However the wishy washy back and forth with her ripping out Danny’s heart, is a mess and not fun to see. I just wished we had more of daughter Gracie, she really brings out the gentler, softer, caring loving side of Danny and of course she’s adorably cute.
I agree, I cannot stand Rachel and wish she would go away. Love that James Caan will be on the show tho!
I disagree. The Rachel/Danny story line is a welcome change from the Shelburne storyline. We have to have an “unhappy Danny” in order for his character to be interesting (PLenkov’s words,not mine) so we need to keep Rachel around to keep Danny’s character angry and unhappy. Rachel does that very well!

And definitely agree with Sam. It’s great they’re going to give him a different role instead of the one everybody expected.
Some folks on have been complaining/disappointed about the fact he’s not playing Danny’s dad. I’m kind of glad. I mean. he’d be great at it, but they could both dial that performance in. I’d much rather see two great actors working at scenes that are packed with conflict and emotion. It’s going to be perfect

I don’t really care either way that he isn’t playing Danny’s father. Whatever, role he’s in, I’m sure, will be great.
However, I’m getting damned tired of this on again off again shit with Danny and Rachel!
Them getting back together was last season’s big twist, why repeat it again?
Surprised, but excited! I thought he’d be Danny’s dad, but thankfully Mr. Caan is way more creative than I am! Pitched his own idea for a character! This is going to be awesome! Now I really can’t wait for this episode!
may be that he play formore father in law who want Danny as son in law. not the rich Stan who goes alround the world leaving his wife along at home to take care of the kids.

I would love that Joey!! That’s one way of getting Rachel and Danny together or he could be a scoundrel of a father to Stan which could jeopardize Rachel’s relationship with Stan and she goes back to Danny…but no going back and forth, then it just gets stupid…lol!!!
Being Danno’s dad was too obvious. I’m glad he’ll be playing another role. I can’t wait to see him.
So happy Mr. Caan will be involved! Perhaps he will be the real baby daddy! Just kiding. I bet he will be some sort of mob guy ha! OR maybe some sort of homeless informant type that can have a recurring role, slightly comedic too! Who knows? It will be worth the wait!

as long as they give us a great storyline in the episode i don’t really care whats james’s character would be its enough to have him on the show it makes a great add….though im glad he isn’t playing scotts father it would be cheesy & boring…but what i really hope that he would have something to do with the Shelborn story…still; James caan would be great at any character peter will give him….

Whatever character he plays will be AWESOME! I just hope it can become a recurring character. I don’t think he will have anything with Shelburne story line since he came up with idea for character and will be connected to Danno and not McGarrett. After all, the only reason he is doing show is to work with his son! I believe this will be the best episode yet! Can’t wait!

If he wanted to know if Danny and Rachel got back together, then I would think his storyline has something to do with that and not Shelburn. I think it would be fun if he played Rachel’s dad who didn’t exactly get along with Danny’s character. The conflict between the two of them would be awesome. Who could stare down the other! It could play either way. If they don’t get back together but Danny is around a lot, James Caan’s character could be there to try to put Danny in his place. If they do get back together and there was conflict between them before they divorced, well then it would just continue. Far more interesting than if they were to play father and son.
