Season 3 of Hawaii Five-0 is more than two months away, but devoted fans can still feed their habit over the summer months. Here’s the U.S. broadcast schedule for the next few weeks:
Monday, July 23: “Mai Ka Wā Kahiko” (Out of the Past) Remembered by many as the “Steve and Lori go jogging” episode. In time-honored Hollywood tradition, the clumsy woman (Lori) twists her ankle and must be carried to safety by the (male) hero, resulting in a spate of strenuous eye-rolling by feminists across the nation. But truly, this is an excellent Danno-centric episode, showcasing Scott Caan. We find the Jersey-ite at the mercy of a sleazy former partner, played with creepy efficiency by Peter Greene. Caan manages to draw the viewer into Danny Williams’ agony when he’s forced into an impossible situation. If there’s one thing that Five-0 viewers have learned, it’s that you just don’t mess with “Monkey.”
Saturday, July 28 (special time) : “Mea Makamae” (Treasure) Bare-chested Steve diving for sunken treasure and an appearance by Patty Duke. See our review here.
Monday, July 30: “I Helu Pū” (The Reckoning) In this episode we get the cast dressed to the nines in formal-wear, Danny and Steven trying to outbid each other at an auction, and the end of the line for Lori Weston.
Monday, August 6: ”Ma’ema’e” (Clean) A volleyball coach is murdered and McGarrett and Fryer go toe-to-toe as the head of Internal Affairs places Kono in a precarious position.

Although we still haven’t received word from CBS as to whether or not there will be a Sunset On the Beach premiere for Hawaii Five-0 this year, we have gleaned a few tidbits of other information in week 1 of production. According to Tannya Joaquin’s (Hawaii News Now) Facebook page, the first episode of the year will have our Five-0 team facing a “one-two punch” of bad guys. Although they have different beefs with our heroes, villains Wo Fat, (Iron Chef Chairman Mark Dacascos) and Frank Delano (William Baldwin) are on hand to open the season, along with Delano’s current mayhem-master, “Toothpick” (Karl Herlinger).
For the fans who have been lobbying Hawaii Five-0 executive producer Peter Lenkov to write McGarrett’s sister “Mary” into another episode, it looks like that just may be a possibility. Taryn Manning (@TarynManning) was asked by a fan as to what her upcoming plans were in September, to which the actress responded by tweeting, “Hawaii!!” Although Taryn didn’t specifically say that the trip to the islands was for the show, it certainly makes sense that Mary would be returning now that it’s been revealed that her mother is still alive, so keep your fingers crossed…
Thanks to a photo tweeted by Peter Lenkov, we know that the resurrected Doris McGarrett returns to Hawaii in episode 301. The photo of a plane with the passenger stairs down was accompanied by the tweet, “Momma McG has returned home… ” We do love it when Peter is in Hawaii because he’s so generous in sharing behind the scenes pictures with us.
One final note, staff writer Joe Halpin tweeted today that he’s on his way to Hawaii which means that he’s the one who penned episode 302. Joe gave us some great storylines last year, so this should be good!

Hawaii News Now posted a short, but cute video from immediately after the traditional blessing of the third season of Hawaii Five-0. Alex O’Loughlin (Steve McGarrett) puts his famous hugging skills to use, thereby causing a collective “awwww,” in the fan world.

When we last saw August March slipping away into the night on Hawaii Five-0 , we knew he had to return because Steve McGarrett always gets his man. Sure enough, Ed Asner recently tweeted (and can I just say how awesome it is that he’s on twitter?) that he would be heading back to the show. Now we have a few more details, compliments of TV Guide.

Got any Hawaii Five-0 scoop not related to McGarrett’s mom? — Melissa
ADAM: You mean you don’t want to know that McGarrett’s recently MIA galpal Catherine shamelessly flirts with a witness protection agent to get details on Mama McGarrett’s whereabouts? OK, fine: I also hear that Ed Asner’s art collector/smuggler August March will be back this season. McGarrett will call on him when a band of armed thieves knock over a years-old art gallery and make off with a couple of priceless paintings. However, the simple heist eventually gives way to a kidnapping, a hostage situation and a deadly shootout.

Hawaii Five-0 heaven continues into day 2 thanks to photos from Craig Kojima and the Star Advertiser. Based on the smiles of the participants, the blessing of Season 3 for the CBS show appears to have been an event enjoyed by all. Some fans have inquired about the absence of cast members Scott Caan and Grace Park, but there was nothing amiss. Scott was flying in from California after the closing of his play “No Way Around But Through,” and Grace was not scheduled to shoot on opening day. She did, however, decide to stop by towards the end of the ceremony.

Those who weren’t able to view today’s blessing of Hawaii Five-0′s third season production, will be happy to see that fansite “Alex O’Loughlin Rocks” (@AOLRocks) has posted video for your viewing pleasure. My guess is that a few of us who were able to see the broadcast may just watch again, anyway.

Executive producer Peter Lenkov teased Hawaii Five-0 fans with the title page from the show’s first episode of Season 3. According to our Hawaiian friend Monica, the title of “La O Na Makuahine” translates to “Mother’s Day.”
Since the second season ended with Steve McGarrett discovering that his “dead” mother was very much alive, we should be prepared for a huge dose of emotional mother-son drama for episode 3.01.
Mike Gordon of the Star Advertiser reported that Daniel Dae Kim would not be back from his travels in time for the Season 3 blessing ceremony, but Hawaii News Now has said that Christine Lahti will attend. That sounds like the first day back on the set will focus on Lahti (Doris McGarrett,) and Alex O’Loughlin (Steve McGarrett) as mother and son reunite. Hopefully Grace Park will be on hand for the traditional blessing, as Scott Caan may also be MIA. Caan is wrapping up his play, “No Way Around But Through” later tonight in southern California.
The Hawaii News Now Sunrise team will begin their live broadcast of the opening day ceremony at 5:00 a.m Hawaii time, with the blessing itself expected to start at 6:30.

The lovely, and very lucky Tannya Joaquin will be on the set of Hawaii Five-0 this Monday during the live broadcast of the blessing of Season 3. I say “lucky” because not only did Tannya get to interview the extremely handsome Alex O’Loughlin (Steve McGarrett,) last year, she scored a kiss from the man as well. The ladies might have been a bit jealous, but Tannya is such a sweetheart that we just had to cheer for her.
On the islands, it’s traditional for new businesses and homes to receive a blessing for the purpose of cleaning out any negative energy, so that they may start with a clean slate. Hawaii Five-0 has followed this tradition by having each season blessed by a Hawaiian kahu (minister) on the first day of filming.
As soon as we have more specifics on the time of the broadcast, we’ll post that information for you.
From Hawaii News Now
We’re the only TV station in town invited on set for the blessing and start of filming Monday morning, July 9th.
Tannya Joaquin will be there to catch up with the stars before they begin shooting.. including leading man Alex O’Loughlin, the newest addition to the cast, Emmy winner Christine Lahti, Steve McGarrett’s love interest, Michelle Borth and more.
Filming for every season of the show has started with a traditional Hawaiian blessing. Blessings mark the start of something new and are a show of respect for the host culture. Hawaii has embraced the show and the blessing is the cast and crew’s way of sharing their aloha.
