Scott Caan – A man of many talents

September 8th, 2014 by

scottcaanvanity

Even at a young age, Scott Caan knew he would pursue his creative side. “I really, really, really, really, really did not like going to school, and I didn’t want to do anything that further schooling could lead me to. The idea of graduating and going to college – there wasn’t a future there for me. So, when I was 13, when I was in 9th grade, even 8th grade, I was sort of subconsciously getting my creative mind working,” Caan told The Hundreds during a recent interview.

He started writing rhymes (he avoids saying it was poetry) and mixing them with music from his mom’s karaoke machine. Being a B-boy was his obsession. “Graffiti, breakdancing, I liked everything to do with it,”  he said.

It was his pursuit of rap music that eventually lead him to acting. A director saw him on tour with House of Pain and asked him to read for a part. Caan was reluctant at first but reconsidered when he read the script. He eventually got the part. “I pretty much from that point on left music. I felt like with music – I can say this now – I always felt, not that I was fronting, but I was always trying to do something that maybe wasn’t 100% natural for me.” From there, the young rapper joined Playhouse West as an actor and writer. He still returns there as his schedule allows.

When asked about his new book of photography titled Vanity, Caan says, “A lot of these photos [from Vanity] are from a road trip. I drove across country and did a big triple W, and would stop somewhere for only two days and would just shoot what I saw and mess around. And I think in my photographs you can see that it is scattered, it is all over the place.”

Read more on why Caan chose to title his book Vanity and why he loves photography in the full The Hundreds article.

Original post

Friend of the blog, Undercover Agent Zoe approached us a few weeks ago with a brilliant idea.  She told us she’d be on the set of Hawaii Five-0 to watch filming in September, and mentioned that she wished she could share the experience with everyone.  She came up with an idea that allows fans to leave a thankful and lasting impression on the cast and crew of our favorite show.  I’ll let Zoe explain it all in her own words! Please note, Zoe is handling ALL communications, not 50undercover.com.  For all questions and submissions, contact her at the email address below. Now, have fun!!

Hawaii Five-0, People's Choice Awards Calling all H50 fans! Many of you know that earlier in the year that CharityBuzz was auctioning off Hawaii Five-0 set visits to a few lucky winners. My wonderful husband bid and won one of these, so we are heading back to Hawaii to pop on to set! I feel incredibly fortunate, as I know so many fans would simply love the same opportunity.  This got me to thinking of how to share the experience with fans worldwide. I thought it might be a nice opportunity for us fans to give something back to the cast and crew, so I thought of creating a Worldwide Fanbook that I can give to the cast and crew when the visit occurs. The premise behind the book is the celebration of 100 completed episodes. This should be a positive experience, and a show of appreciation. Focus on what you DO like about the show and showing your appreciation for that.   I will have the final edit on what is included in the printed book. I want to make this clear from the outset that anything inappropriate will not be included.  This is not the avenue to declare your dislike of a character, nor is it a suggestion box for your take on where the storyline should go (to cite a few examples).   So what I am looking for from you… Name: Nationality: Twitter/Email Contact Info: What can you include (not limited to):

  • Personal accounts of cast/crew meetings
  • Stories from SOTB / Fan Meet Ups / Fan Breakfast etc.
  • How cast/crew have inspired you
  • Personal message of THANKS J
  • Photographs
    • Personal pics with cast/crew
    • BTS Photos
    • Favourite Scenes (and why they are so!)
    • Collages
    • Memes/Quotes
    • Drawings
    • SOTB photos
    • 5-0 shrines (you get the idea…)
  • GET CREATIVE!

Email your entries/questions to H50FanBook@gmx.com no later than Monday 25th August. I really do need everyone’s help to make this possible so please share this around and let’s create something special. Thank you! -Undercover Agent Zoe

Anthony Ruivivar in Southland

More guest star news!

The Honolulu Star Advertiser reports that Anthony Ruivivar will be filming an multiple episode arc to kick off Season 5 of Hawaii Five-0. The Honolulu born actor worked with Scott Caan on the film Speed of Life in the 1990s and the two have remained friends. No word on if the two friends will be on screen together as friends or foes. Ruivivar is best known for his recent roles in Beauty and the Beast, Revolution, Banshee and Southland.

TVGuide is reporting an interesting teaser. As the new season begins, expect to get answers to the questions surrounding WoFat with the story arc coming to head in the 100th episode of the series.

The Summer scanner has been full of Ian Anthony Dale news this year and now we have some exclusive photos to share with you! This pictures were taking when Dale attended the ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) Awards, hosted by ESPN, in July.

Hawaii Five-0 Double Header Weekend

June 27th, 2014 by

It’s a Hawaii Five-0 double header repeat weekend!

In Friday night’s episode titled “Ma lalo o ka ‘ili”, fans relive Danno fussing over his parents’ break up. Melanie Griffith (as Clara Williams) and Scott Caan work well together playing mother and son, ending the three part story arc in this episode. Conspiracy theorist Jerry, helps decode more of the Champ box for McGarrett, leading Steve into a deeper mystery about his mother. Not wanting all the attention going to Jerry, McGarrett rips his shirt off when confronting a CIA operative.  OK, so it doesn’t happen exactly like that, but you ladies deserve a heads up.

Does Jerry have a 'Beautiful Mind'?

Does Jerry have a ‘Beautiful Mind’?

On Saturday, fan’s heart strings will be tugged in “Kupu’eu” as a guest star  is killed off , and a little too early, in my opinion. I was hoping for this character to be around much longer to give McGarrett a run for his money since his story had a lot of potential.  No spoilers here, though! You will have to tune in to see who it is, if you missed it the first time. One of my favourite characters, Joe White also returns. You know that his appearance only means more angst for McGarrett.

Autumn Reeser as Gabby

Autumn Reeser as Gabby

As a side note, former Hawaii Five-0 guest star, Autumn Reeser (Danno’s love interest, Gabby) will appearing on the Thrilling Adventure Hour panel at San Diego Comic Con in July. Reeser has been part of the stage show and podcast team for the last 6 years. If you will be in San Diego on Comic Con weekend (July -24-27, 2014), Reeser will be appearing in the old time radio stage performance on July 26th, 2014. No Comic Con badge needed! Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

Many viewers thought that the fourth season of the CBS show was better than the previous two, so you’ll want to add this one to your collection.  In addition to behind the scenes features, the gag reel featuring a very funny Alex O’Loughlin, Grace Park, Scott Caan, and Daniel Dae Kim, is always one of the high points of the set, and new cast member Chi McBride should add a few laughs.

Wendie Burbridge Recaps Hawaii Five-0 Season 4

May 15th, 2014 by

VLC00049

From our good friend, Wendie Burbridge (of the Hawaii Five-0 Redux), in a special to the Honolulu Advertiser-

If there is a phrase to describe season four of “Hawaii Five-0,” it would be “to change is to mature.”

A more grown-up version of the CBS series debuted on a new night and time — Fridays at 8 p.m. — bringing in two new characters while saying aloha to another. And while the show kept its action-filled story line moving along at a smart and stronger pace, changes helped “Five-0″ ramp up the quality without losing its focus.

» Change is good. Many fans thought the move to Friday would kill the show, but “Five-0 Friday” seemed to be what the series needed to regain its season one audience numbers. The earlier time slot as well as being the lead-in for Tom Selleck’s cop family drama “Blue Bloods” also seemed to help propel the Hawaii-based series onto the list of the top 20 shows of the TV season.

» Change can be difficult. The season started with “Aloha ke Kahi i ke Kahi” (“Love One Another”), where McGarrett (series star Alex O’Loughlin) broke every law to save his kidnapped girlfriend, Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth), who had been taken by drug lords. Over the course of season four, we got to know more about McG and Cath’s love for each other and how their careers have intersected.

Yet even their sweet on-screen relationship did not help to save Rollins from being written off the show in episode 21, “Makani ʻOlu a Holo Malie” (“Fair Winds and Following Seas”). It went down like this: Catherine and McGarrett take off to Afghanistan to find the son of a Pashtun man who once saved her life. During their search, McG is kidnapped by the Taliban and is forced to leave Catherine behind in Kabul. She is last seen on a black motorcycle, riding off into the Afghan sunset, determined to continue looking for the lost little boy. Fans hope to see Cath come back to McG, but Borth is not returning for season five.

» Change can be encouraging. Chi McBride guest-starred in the season opener and joined the cast as a series regular by November. McBride’s character, SWAT Capt. Lou Grover, moved his family to Hawaii to start a new life, away from a tragic mistake he made as a cop in Chicago.

It was Grover’s episode in the season finale, “ʻO ka Pili ʻOhana ka ʻOi” (“Family Comes First”) as Grover pulls a McG — breaking all the rules — to rescue his daughter Samantha (Paige Hurd) after she is kidnapped by evil computer hacker Ian Wright (returning guest star Nick Jonas). McGarrett offers Grover a spot on the Five-0 task force after he is forced to retire. Next season should be interesting, with the captain (Grover) and the commander (McGarrett) trying to work together without killing each other.

Jorge Garcia also joined the cast this season after he guest-starred as conspiracy theorist Jerry Ortega, Chin Ho Kelly’s (Daniel Dae Kim) old pal from Kukui High, in “Ka ʻOiaʻiʻo Maloko” (“The Truth Within”). His character quickly became a fan favorite, and Ortega’s love of secret government plots seems to have helped McGarrett solve more of the Shelburne mystery surrounding his mother, Doris (Christine Lahti), and her connection to Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos). Ortega found a cypher on the bottom of the Champ box left behind by McGarrett’s father, leading the Five-0 leader to a grave in Cambodia that once held villain Wo Fat’s mother.

Perhaps next season Ortega will help McGarrett finally solve the mystery surrounding his mother and her connection to Wo Fat. If nothing else, he will add a bit of quirky comic relief.

» Change happens. There were many changes for the core four this season. Whether they were good or bad, we know what the team is facing in season five.

Kono Kalakaua (Grace Park) spent half the season “on the run” from the Yakuza with her lover, Adam Noshimuri (Ian Anthony Dale). This was in part because Park was on maternity leave. While we saw Kono and Adam in several episodes, those scenes were filmed in Vancouver where Park gave birth to a baby boy. It was a happy day when Kono and Adam returned to Hawaii in “O Kela Me Keia Manawa” (“Now and Then”). In the season closer, Kono mentions that Adam has brought up the “M” word — perhaps there’s a wedding on the season five horizon?

Chin seems to have made peace with the loss of his wife, Malia (Reiko Aylesworth), who was killed at the end of season two by bad cop Frank Delano (William Baldwin). In the intense episode “Hana Lokomaikaʻi” (“Favor”), he said a final aloha to her at the beach where they first met. Chin’s new girlfriend, Leilani (Lindsay Price), seemed to have a presence this season, but with the news that Price is expecting her second child, Chin may be in for more heartbreak.

Danno Williams (Scott Caan) dealt with his parents’ divorce (Melanie Griffith and Tom Berenger played Mom and Pops Williams) as well as the obvious growing pains of having a near-teenage daughter (Teilor Grubbs). His new love interest, Amber (Lili Simmons), seems to be making him a bit happier, but with Danno we never really know. Caan was sporadically present during the season — in one episode and hardly in the next — but with the news of his impending fatherhood in real life, fans can only hope we see Danno in season five.

McGarrett’s ohana has grown, as his sister, Mary Ann (Taryn Manning), returned home after adopting a little girl. Unfortunately, he seems to have lost not only his girlfriend, but his Aunt Deb (played to perfection by Carol Burnett), who came for Thanksgiving to tell him she was dying of cancer.

McGarrett spent a lot of season four trying to find out why his mother seems to have such a soft spot for Wo Fat. At one point he thought Wo Fat was his half-brother, even having Max (Masi Oka) test the bad man’s blood to see if they were a DNA match.

So when Wo Fat returned in Friday’s season finale, we did get a bit of a cliffhanger. Not a huge hang-onto-the-edge-of-your-seat ending, but one that gave us something to think about for season five.

In the season finale, Wo Fat breaks out of a Colorado supermax prison after it seems Doris aided his escape. He shows up in Hawaii, only to kill Ian Wright and free Samantha Grover. While he’s still in the wind, the message he has Samantha deliver to McG is that they need to talk. That’s a meeting fans can’t wait to see in season five.

So perhaps one of the biggest “Five-0″ changes will come next season: Wo Fat turns out to be a good guy?

What fun would that be?

Scott Caan and girlfriend expecting!

May 8th, 2014 by

For several weeks now, it’s been rumored that Hawaii Five-0 actor Scott Caan was going to be a dad after Caan and long-time girlfriend stylist Kacy Bixbee, were spotted out and about, with Kacy sporting an obvious baby-bump.

Although neither Caan nor Bixbee have made a comment confirming an upcoming bundle of joy, the grand-pop-to-be James Caan, has let the cat out of the bag.

Although he’s said he’ll never marry, fans have noticed that Scott does seem to have a way with the little ones, and no doubt he’ll be a great dad.  Kacy also works on the set of Hawaii Five-0, and star Alex O’Loughlin has a one year old, so perhaps Eye Studio should consider opening a nursery on the premises.

Look down… Look up… McGarrett is on a horse!

Finally!!! The tables are turned when Catherine asks McGarrett to do her a favour. Unlike the usual Navy intelligence information that Steve asks Catherine to get for him, her favour involves bullets, bad guys and a bloody McGarrett. Some of the promo photos remind me of his capture and torture at the hands of Wo Fat. Who is going to be saving who by the end? To find out that and more, don’t miss this lead-up to the final episode of Season 4!

Bollywood beauty, Mallika Sherawat, has been cast as Farah Khan, a character from Catherine’s military past. Khan’s son is kidnapped and it’s up to Cath and McGarrett to try and save him in Afghanistan. For those who missed it, this will be Michelle Borth’s last episode. SPOILER!!! Executive producer, Peter Lenkov, assures fans that Cath does not die. Borth even teased (on Twitter) that the door may be open for her character to return.

Keep your eyes peeled for Gary Fritts, a real life SEAL (retired), who has been a military advisory on Hawaii Five-0 for the last three years. Tough guy, Kala Alexander reprises his roll as Kawika (surprisingly not listed a recurring) while Duane “Dog” Chapman appears for the second time.

This week’s Hawaii Five-0 raises an interesting question – “How well do you know your neighbours?”

Think about it- whenever an unimaginable tragedy strikes, the media is quick to interview those in close proximity to the perpetrator. Those interviews usually reveal a common theme about an unassuming suspect – a nice quiet neighbour who never made a fuss.

In today’s world of gated communities, six foot high privacy fences, and a societal “fear of strangers”, could you, with any kind of certainty, say that those who live close to you aren’t up to something untoward?

On a more fun note, this is Hawaii Five-0 stunt coordinator Jeff Cadiente’s (“The Crow, “24″) second outing as a director.  That’s sure to mean some fun action sequences!
