Hawaii Five-0′s “go-to” reporter

April 14th, 2014 by

If you’ve watched the new inception of Hawaii Five-0 from the start, during a scene near the end of Friday’s episode you may have found yourself thinking, “That reporter sure looks familiar.”  And you would be correct.  Local freelance reporter, writer, and public relations director, Diane Ako, has made a hobby of cameos on the Oahu-based show, with at least three appearances that I’m aware of.

Diane Ako in “Ku I Ka Pili Koko.”

Diane Ako in “Ku I Ka Pili Koko.”

After Diane’s first experience in the show’s maiden season, she wrote a short blog post about the day in which she claimed that the show’s star, Alex O’Loughlin (Steve McGarrett) was “every bit as hunky as all the gossip columns say.”  Of course, fans of the show will have no problem believing that.

Diane’s initial appearance was with Alex and Scott Caan, and she had nothing but compliments for both actors.  You can check out the original blog from 2010 here, to read Ms. Ako memories about her first day on the set in Season 1.

Blood Brothers – McGarrett and Danno

Friday’s episode is one that fans having been looking forward to all season. Hawaii Five-0 has been lacking some of its epic bromance as Scott Caan has seen less screen time this season and his absence has left fans clamoring for more McGarrett-Danno time. Executive producer, Peter Lenkov, teased, “Prediction: Fan favorite. McDanno fans will be MORE than satisfied.” (via Twitter.)

I predict lots of heart to heart between the two friends as they face possible death. Get your tissues ready.

It’s interesting to note that Xzbit is listed as recurring cast, reprising his role as Jason (JC) Dekker. He originally appeared in the adorable “3 Men and a Baby” episode 4.07. His character is now in jail and has information for the Five-0 team.

Hawaii Five-0 fans are known for having strong opinions on the direction they want their favourite show to go, often sharing those views on social media. In a ground breaking move, fans have spent most of this season crafting their very own episode by voting on various elements of the show. Check out our recap here.

How do you feel about this kind of interactive television? If CBS does something like this next year, what would you like to see them do?

Watch below as the cast talk about the making of this fan built episode.

Beach bums may recognize guest star Krista Allen from her role as Jenna Avid on Baywatch. Watch for her at Chin’s high school reunion – former flame, perhaps? Sorry folks, doesn’t look like she will be re-enacting running down the beach in slow motion while wearing a skimpy red Baywatch bathing suit.

Another Lost actor is back on the island. Mackenzie Astin appeared in only one episode as a pivotal character from Kate’s past. Seems like once an actor works in Hawaii, the island isn’t done with them!

Up Next on Hawaii Five-0 “Ma lalo o ka ‘ili”

March 13th, 2014 by

Don’t miss the first few minutes of this week’s episode! Two words – Shirtless McGarrett. You’re welcome.

We can look forward to meeting Danny’s father (Tom Berenger) who comes to Hawaii to make amends with his wife, Melanie Griffith. This will end the planned three story arc involving Danny’s mother.

Remember the young lady that McGarrett rescued in the pilot? She was a trafficking victim being held captive in a closet by a bad guy who shot Danny.  Allison Chu played Chen Chi in the pilot but look for her as Amy Nguyen in this episode.

There is another “Lost” star returning to the island.  Although uncredited in the series, Francois Chau played the creepy Dharma doctor, Pierre Chang, in the Dharma Initiative instructional videos. He then had a more regular role in Season 5 with a connection to many of the main characters.   Lostie Jorge Garcia who has a reoccurring role on Hawaii Five-0, returns with more conspiracy theories…and more hugs for McGarrett.

BooBoo Stewart (Seth Clearwater in the Twilight series) and Moani Hara (Miss Hawaii USA 2014) also appear this week.

Up Next on Hawaii Five-0 “Hōkū Welowelo”

March 6th, 2014 by

Melanie Griffith appears as the mother of Danno Williams for the second of a three episode story arc. This week, she’s packing some heat when she joins Grover on a ride along. Danny is always worried that McGarrett will get him shot, will he have to worry about his mom too? Looks like she is ready to jump into the line of fire.

Danny’s mom isn’t the only one taking down the bad guys. Jorge Garcia joins in the fun by tasing a suspect. What kind of conspiracy theories will he come up with relating to a downed satellite and national security? I love the addition of his character to the show and noticed that the press release for this episode now shows Jorge as “recurring.” Could this mean he returns next year assuming there is a fifth season of Hawaii Five-0?

Looks like the episode is a wee bit longer than usual – instead of ending on the hour, it will end 1 minute later. What do you think that means? An extended preview for next week or setting the scene for the finale perhaps? Only 6 episodes left, yet there has been very little mention of McGarrett’s nemesis, Wo Fat this season.

Enjoy these two sneak peeks at this Friday’s episode!

Up Next On Hawaii Five-0; “Pale ‘la”

February 27th, 2014 by

It’s finally here – Friday, February 28th brings us a new episode of Hawaii Five-0! And if that wasn’t exciting enough, we get to meet Danny William’s mom, played by Melanie Griffith of “Working Girl” fame.  And if THAT wasn’t exciting enough, we get to watch as Danno explains why he doesn’t get to drive his own car!  OK, maybe that part will be more fun than exciting, but I’m still looking forward to it.

On the more serious side, we’ll find out what drove Lou Grover out of Chicago, and based on the promos, it was a traumatic event.  I’m betting McGarrett and the team will rally around their new found friend.

Side note – “Pale ‘la” is directed by Jerry Levine, husband of CBS Chairman (and longtime Alex O’Loughlin supporter,) Nina Tassler.

Danno’s mom rolls into town

February 26th, 2014 by

In June of 2012, Melanie Griffith played the mother of Scott Caan’s character in “No Way Around But Through,” a play penned by the Hawaii Five-0 actor.  Apparently the chemistry between the two was enough to impress executive producer Peter Lenkov, who subsequently cast the actress as the mother of Caan’s Five-0 character, Danny Williams.

Access Hollywood recently got the scoop from show-runner Lenkov, (below) and you can catch Griffith’s first appearance as Clara Williams, this Friday, February 28th on CBS 9/8C.

Melanie Griffith gives Scott Caan a kiss on the ‘Hawaii Five-0’ set

Hawaii Five-0” fans are about to understand a little more about Danny “Danno” Williams when they meet his mom, played by Melanie Griffith, this Friday night on the CBS drama.

“If you know Danny… yeah, he’s a little [tightly] wound… and I think you wanna believe that a lot of that could’ve come from her,” “H50” Executive Producer Peter Lenkov told AccessHollywood.com.

There wasn’t far to go to find the right actress to play Clara Williams. Lenkov said he realized how perfect Griffith would be after watching her act opposite “H50” star Scott Caan on the stage.

“Scott wrote a play where Melanie played his mom. I went to see them together. I thought the chemistry was amazing. I totally believed her as his mom and it was as easy as that,” he said. “I knew I was going to have to cast the mom and I just knew that she was gonna be it. The minute I saw them together I said, ‘I can’t have anybody else.’”

Clara will be flying into Honolulu, and Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) will be part of the welcoming party for Danny’s mom and her rather enormous pile of luggage.

“I think he finds her very charming,” Lenkov said when Access asked about Steve’s reaction to Clara. “I think Danny was very suspicious of McGarrett’s mother, but I think [Steve] finds [Danny’s] mother very charming.”

As for what brings Clara to her son’s doorstep, it turns out to be romantic troubles with Danny’s dad, who is being played by Tom Berenger. It’ll be a shock for Danny, who will deal with his parents’ potential split over the course of Melanie’s three-episode arc, but Steve will be there to lend him some advice.

“[He] wants Danny to cut her a little slack. She’s an adult, she’s making a decision. You can’t decide for her how her life’s gonna go. And you’ll see a lot of that dynamic play between them in the three episodes,” Lenkov said.

Lenkov said to expect some emotional material when it comes to this mother and son pair.

“Her big thing is trying to get her son to understand — and Danny relates to it because he got divorced. He knows what his daughter went through. There’s going to be some emotional stuff. We like to wear our heart on our sleeve sometimes, and you’re gonna see a lot of that in [Danny] coming to terms with the fact that his parents may divorce,” Lenkov noted.

Hawaii Five-0 teasers

February 20th, 2014 by

We haven’t had that many Hawaii Five-0 spoilers this year, so we were happy to see one coming out today.  That is, until we  actually read it.  Rumors have been flying this season as to whether some actors will be leaving the show, so could this mean curtains for one team member?  Nah, we don’t think so, but you just never know…

Can we get some spoiler-y hints for the 19th episode of Hawaii Five-0? I read somewhere that Danny gets hurt, and it’s killing me! –Sara
This won’t ease your anxiety much. Or at all. As the team investigates a tip about a guns deal going down inside a parking garage, a bomb implodes the entire structure – with some of Five-0 inside. One person is badly hurt, oxygen’s running low…. Yeah, it’s one of those situations.

You can read up on the other shows at TV Line.

The makings of a memorable cargument

The McGarrett – Danno bromance is back this week in a big way!

Fan have noticed that the dynamic duo have had fewer “bromantic” moments in Season 4, mostly due to the seemingly diminished screen time of Scott Caan. Tonight, however, we can look forward to some epic cargument moments as Steve and Danny spend much of the episode handcuffed together. They are forced to drive around the island by an escaped convict played by Michael Madsen of Reservoir Dogs fame. Madsen’s character threatens little Gracie, which is sure to get Danny’s hackles up.

Grace gets herself into some trouble as she punches out  another student. Remember when Danny punched out McGarrett in the pilot? Apparently the Williams apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Peter Weller is back behind the camera. He has quickly become one of my favourite directors this season.
